South China - Chengyang

OK. I've been trying to keep these photo blogs in some kind of chronological order but I'm afraid thats going to have to go out the window! Basically my computer can't cope, I haven't got enough hard drive space atm to store all the photos I want to scan (we're talking 120MB files that I'm only willing to cut down to 60MB to archive). I know I could squeeze them down some more but I don't want to mess about too much.

Anyway, as a result I've been sorting out photos that I want prints from or want to put on the web etc. for whatever reason. So there's going to be a bit of a mix of locations and times, with some travel stuff plus some new stuff I'm working on. But at least it'll keep me posting!

These photos are from a couple of days spent in the village of Chengyang in Guangxi province. We stayed with the Wu family whilst there (their house can just about be seen on the far left of the last picture). Unfortunately it will not be there any longer as they were moving out the next day because their house was in the way of a new road being built, which would lead right up to the village. This is a shame as the partial remoteness of the area has mostly saved it from the ill effects of tourism, however now the tour buses will be able to drive right up to the door step.

The first seven photos were taken at the village cultural show which Tim (one of the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wu) took us too. Men and women of all ages take part in the performance of traditional Dong songs and dances, followed by some rice wine and then a chance to join in with the dancing at the end! (those pictures I'll leave out!)

Looking over Chengyang and the surrounding villages

Thats not all from Chengyang, I've got lots more that I'll eventually get round to posting, so watch this space!
